CIPTC ‘Foreign WanderersFootball Team Match Report

May 6th 2019

Following the completion of the Qing Mi Holiday at the start of the April, The Foreign Wanderers continued with their busy workload of matches and socials.

Their first match of the month, Sunday April 14th proved to be a very frustrating match and brought to an end the teams 4 game winning streak. With both poor weather and field conditions, along with some questionable refereeing decisions, ‘The Wanderers fought from 1 - 0 down to take a 3 - 1 lead going into the final 30 minutes. Unfortunately the opposition came back with two quick fire goals before winning the match with the final kick of the game 4 - 3. Although this was a very difficult result for the team to take they understood what they needed to do to bounce back.

On Saturday April 20th the team took part in one of their main socials of the term going to Dongguan to watch fellow teammate Matt Meloy’s band, Lips McKenzie play. As always Lips McKenzie lived up to the hype and produced another fantastic performance as the team partied into the night.

Following the social, The Foreign Wanderers went onto to play two games in three days.
The first match on Thursday April 23rd brought both a professional and positive performance with the team playing strong defense and ball retention leading them to win the game 3 - 0. Goals coming from JT,Matt James - Pennells and Tobby Noesi scoring his first goal for the team. As commented by Captain for the game Finn Thompson ‘This was a very enjoyable game to play in where we played very good passing football.’

The match on Saturday April 25th proved to be a different beast altogether. Playing on a smaller pitch against a very organized and competitive team ‘The Wanderers’ came from behind three times to share the spoils 3 - 3 with goals coming from Matthew Hunt, Tom Lewis and Captain Ryan Shaw. Although the team felt frustrated with their passing not being as fluid resulting to playing longer balls the match however showed the resilience of the team to keep battling in a game that could have gone either way.

Once again this has turned out to be another pleasing month for the team. ‘The Wanderers’ will be ready go again following the completion of the May Labor Day Holiday.
